The Black Keys are dropping a new album! “Dropout Boogie” is set to be released on May 13. They have also dropped the album’s lead single, “Wild Child.” The music video was directed by their longtime collaborator Bryan Schlam. The duo will be heading out across North America on a “Dropout Boogie Tour.”
The songs on “Dropout Boogie” were written by both Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. It’s drop date is the day before the 20th anniversary of “The Big Come Up,” which was their debut album. Billy F. Gibbons, Greg Cartwright and Angelo Petraglia were all contributors to the new album.
The album was both written and recorded in Nashville, which means a lot to Dan. “Living in Nashville and making records here has opened both of our minds to that experience a little bit more. I knew Pat would love working with both of these guys, so we decided we’d give it a shot. It was the first time we’d ever really done that. It was fun as h*ll. We just sat around a table with acoustic guitars and worked out a song ahead of time.”
- In the music video for “Wild Child,” Dan and Pat are working in a high school as a janitor and a cook. They enter the teacher’s lounge and get totally roasted by the teachers in there. “We’re gonna reconnect with our blue collar roots then we’re out,” says Pat to which Dan answers, “For … the … album.” They resign from their gigs, leave the school behind, flipping them off as they go, and ride off in luxury cars.
