Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard’s side project Painted Shield is getting ready to release their sophomore album, and they’ve just shared the first single from the record.

The tune “Dead Man’s Dream” will be featured on “Painted Shield 2,” dropping April 22nd. In addition to Stone, the band includes songwriter Mason JenningsMatt Chamberlain and Seattle’s Brittany Davis.

“This one started as a classic Stone Gossard riff,” says Jennings. “The lyrics were originally from a folk song I had been working on for a few years. I wondered how it would work to lay the folk lyrics against that heavy rock bed. Felt good. Then we all sang in the choruses and channeled our love for Van Halen.”
